At Allegra, learning support is not an add-on, it is part of how we ensure every student feels seen, heard, and empowered. With small classes of just 14 students, and a Learning Support Officer (LSO) in nearly every room, our students benefit from a unique level of personalised guidance. This structure allows our teachers and LSOs to provide support that is both responsive and strengths-based, ensuring students can access the curriculum on the same basis as their peers.
Redefining Learning Support
Too often, learning support is misunderstood as “helping students get the right answers.” At Allegra, we see it differently. Our LSOs are not there to complete work for students, but to stand alongside them as they navigate the process themselves. Support is centred on encouraging students to take risks, ask questions, and embrace challenges. The goal is not perfection, but progress by helping students learn that it is safe to try, safe to fail, and safe to try again.
Learning Through Safe Failure
We know that some of the most powerful learning moments come when things don’t go to plan. At Allegra, LSOs help create an environment where failure is not a setback, but a stepping stone. Whether scaffolding a task to reduce cognitive load, using multimodal strategies to suit different learning styles, or providing quiet encouragement in moments of doubt, our learning support team makes it possible for students to engage with challenges in a constructive way.
This approach builds resilience, the ability to keep going when something feels difficult, and equips students with the confidence to persist.

Just as in the workforce, no one achieves success in isolation, and every role requires collaboration. Our LSOs model and nurture this skill daily, supporting students to work with others, communicate their needs, and celebrate growth together.
