Showcasing Creativity and Entrepreneurial Spirit
This term, our Year 10 Business Studies students have showcased their creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial flair through the Business Plan Awards. Over the course of Terms 2 and 3, students were challenged to identify a business opportunity and develop a comprehensive plan for a start-up venture located in Coffs Central Shopping Centre.
Learning Through Real-World Investigations
The process required students to think like real business owners. They conducted on-site investigations of the shopping centre, considering factors such as foot traffic, complimentary businesses, competition, and unique selling opportunities. Students also undertook market research to determine their target markets, ensuring their business ideas were grounded in both creativity and customer demand. Armed with this research, each student designed an innovative business concept, wrote a detailed business plan, and delivered a pitch designed to win over potential investors.
Innovative Business Ideas from Year 10
The ideas presented were truly inspiring, ranging from virtual escape rooms, e-bike hire services, environmentally friendly funeral options, and thrift-revive enterprises, to bespoke fidget and plush toys, frozen dessert bars, and more. Each proposal reflected careful planning, creative thinking, and a practical understanding of what makes a business succeed.

Recognising Outstanding Student Achievements
Among the many outstanding submissions, four students stood out for the exceptional quality of their work:
- Archie Holdaway – Salt and Swirl: A fresh and exciting frozen dessert bar concept.
- Tyla Long – Game Face: A much-needed occupational clothing line tailored specifically for women.
- Eden Wolhuter – Plushie Planet: Bespoke, environmentally friendly fidget and plush toys.
