From regional beginnings to global perspectives, leading inclusive education with purpose

Principal Spotlight: Erin Caceda

Erin Caceda, Principal of Allegra School, brings a deeply personal and wide ranging perspective to inclusive education, shaped by her experiences in regional New South Wales and across the world.

Growing up in Coffs Harbour, Erin attended local public schools, developing an early understanding of the role education plays in shaping opportunity and connection within a community. This foundation continued into her early teaching career in the public education system, where she built her practice supporting a diverse range of students and learning needs.

Her first teaching position took her 150kms west of Dubbo to Tottenham, a small rural town with a population of around 300 people. There, Erin worked in a central school supporting approximately 100 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. In this close knit environment, education extended far beyond the classroom. It required adaptability, strong relationships, and a deep commitment to ensuring that every student was known, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed.

This experience cemented Erin’s passion for regional and rural education, and her belief that all students, regardless of location, deserve access to high quality, inclusive learning opportunities.

Following her time in Tottenham, Erin took her passion for working with young people into a global setting, working on international cruise ships in children’s programs. Travelling extensively and engaging with families from a wide range of cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds, she experienced inclusion in its most dynamic form.

These experiences reinforced the importance of flexibility, empathy, and creating environments where every young person feels safe, valued, and able to participate fully. They also shaped Erin’s belief in the power of exploration and discovery, and the role that broader life experiences can play in enriching both teaching and learning.

Today, these combined experiences inform Erin’s leadership at Allegra School.

At Allegra, there is a strong focus on creating supportive and transformative learning experiences that are personalised, responsive, and grounded in genuine connection. The school’s approach reflects a belief that wellbeing, engagement, and learning are deeply interconnected, and that students thrive when they are understood as individuals.

Erin has also worked alongside the Allegra School Board to expand opportunities for staff through the development of the GLOW Grant, an initiative designed to support international professional learning experiences. Through this work, staff have had the opportunity to engage in global learning, including professional learning experiences in Cambodia, strengthening their practice and bringing new perspectives back into the school community.

This commitment to professional growth reflects a broader belief that educators, like students, benefit from exposure to new environments, ideas, and ways of thinking.

Erin remains deeply committed to ensuring that students, particularly those in regional and specialist settings, are supported to access meaningful, high quality education that opens pathways for their future. Her work continues to be guided by the values of acceptance, connection, and collaboration, fostering a school culture where both students and staff are supported to grow, explore, and thrive.

Erin is passionate about sharing practical approaches to inclusive education and continues to seek opportunities to connect, collaborate, and learn alongside other educators and communities.
