Solli Raphael – Slam Poet Workshops with Allegra Students

As part of the Bellingen Reader Writers Festival, Allegra School had the opportunity to welcome acclaimed poet and author Solli Raphael on a Wednesday afternoon

Solli, who rose to national prominence after winning the Australian Poetry Slam at the Sydney Opera House at just 12 years old, brought his passion for language, storytelling, and personal expression to our school. In an engaging and inspiring session, he shared his journey as a writer, performer, and change-maker, encouraging students to find their voice and use it powerfully.

Following his talk, Solli facilitated a workshop where students were guided to craft original pieces of writing or poetry. The focus was on creating a “window into their identity and world”—a meaningful opportunity for self-expression and connection through words. Students were encouraged to reflect on their experiences and perspectives, translating them into creative and moving snapshots of their lives.

This visit was a memorable highlight of the festival and a valuable experience for all involved. We extend our warmest thanks to Solli Raphael for empowering our students to explore their unique voices with confidence and creativity.

On a side note, have a look at this talented artists impression of our guest speaker by Micael O’Dell, a Year 9 Allegra student.
