Enrolments

Allegra is recognised as a Special Assistance School, which means our enrolment policy identifies the characteristics of the disability or social, emotional and/or behavioural needs of the students eligible to enrol in the school.

Apply

Each enrolment starts with an application. We recommend completing an Expression of Interest and booking for a tour; however, you may also submit an application straight to the Allegra Administration Office by downloading a form off our website. Printed applications can be collected from the school office, and assistance to complete the form can be provided.

Application FAQ

Each application must be supported by:

  • Completed application form
  • Previous high school reports
  • Supporting documentation that  identifies/details the characteristics of the disability or social, emotional, learning and/or behavioural needs of the students
  • Birth Certificate, Medicare and immunisation documentation

Each application will be reviewed by the Executive Leadership Team.

We endeavour to offer interviews to eligible students as soon as practical after a complete application is received. You should know within 5 working days if your application will proceed to interview, has been waitlisted, is pending further information or has not been accepted.

Call the Administration Office on 02 66 51 68 98. The administration staff will gladly assist you by answering your questions, or will connect you with a member of staff who will help you.

Yes. We look at each application holistically and understand that each individual has a history. We also understand that many students are looking for a fresh start and are eager to move forward.

That being said, we are unable to support students who require 1:1 behaviour support. Many of our students are unable to function effectively in loud or unpredictable classrooms and we take into consideration the needs of the entire cohort before accepting an enrolment.

SBI stands for Student Background Information. When you apply, and before an interview, we will request an SBI from your previous school. We ask about attendance, behaviour and learning support requirements. We use this information to guide some of our interview questions.

Interview

As a part of the selection process all students attend an interview. Parents/carers are welcome to join the interview however it is important we hear from the potential student to discover their motivations for wanting to attend the school. This is also our first opportunity to learn more about what will help and inspire learning.

Interview FAQ

After you check in with the front office, you will be asked to complete a self evaluation that corresponds with our Deep Learning Framework. There are no right or wrong answers, we are just curious to see where you will rank yourself.

Next you will be collected by a member of the interview team, and you will start the interview. Your parent/carer is encouraged to be in the interview with you.

You will be interviewed by at least 2 members of the Executive Leadership Team. We endeavour to have at least 1 senior executive, and 1 member of the wellbeing team where possible; but this may change at short notice.

You are not required to bring anything to the interview. If you are nervous, we have sensory aids ready or you can bring your own.

We will ask you a series of questions to help us determine the best way to transition you to, and support you at Allegra. We will ask you about:

  • Your previous schooling history including academics and behaviour
  • Your interests and strengths
  • Your goals
  • Your social/emotional needs
  • Your learning needs
  • Any transition supports you may need

We will also run through the school rules and expectations at the interview. Allegra has very high standards of behaviour, and a very low tolerance for bullying. It is important that you understand the school expectations and that we discuss any support you might need to meet them. We also outline other key information, like our boundaries, opening hours and our dress code.

We endeavour to let applicants know of the outcome of their interview within 3 business days of the interview. If we require further information, you will be advised of this at the interview and this may delay the interview process.

Enrol

Once you have been offered a position at Allegra, you will be given a start date for commencing classes.

Enrol FAQ

Each start date is variable and dependent on a number of different factors. We try and start students at the beginning of the year or term but for students starting mid-year, it can be up to a 2-week period between your interview and commencement.

You will need a selection of books. The equipment list will be provided to you along with your offer of enrolment.

Please report to the front office. Here you will be given your timetable and escorted by a mentor to your first class. We don’t have a large campus, so don’t worry about getting lost.

Yes. Following your acceptance please inform your previous school that you have commenced at Allegra. We will also inform them once you have started.

Graduate Testimonials

Atlas

“I am gay/trans and was being bullied at my previous school – I’m also on the spectrum and was getting a bit lost. I needed a change for Year 10 and some friends told me about Allegra School. It’s a really accepting environment, you can be yourself and the teachers see you as a person not a number. I was doing ok at my old school but coming here re-sparked my interest in study.”

Ellia

“I have always been home-schooled. I chose Allegra for Years 9 and 10 because it was a smaller school with a flexible learning environment. I settled in and made friends quickly – everyone is new in Year 9. The timetable is great, the day finishes earlier than other schools. I’ve surprised myself and achieved a solid B average. I love Math now, my Year 9 teacher made it really fun.”

Munro

“I was the kid who got suspended a few times early in high school and then the label just stuck. I came to Allegra in Year 9 for a fresh start – you’re not hit with the same stuff from before, so I wasn’t that student who had been suspended anymore. I made new friends easily and the teachers were great.  You can speak freely with the teachers; they listen to your opinions and we call them by their first names. I also liked the timetable, it was better than my old school.”

Struan

“I was doing Distance Education and didn’t like it. You have to login to your classroom and there was no face-to-face learning. I enrolled at Allegra for Year 10 because I was too young to start my apprenticeship and I wanted to be with other students. I liked it straight away. It’s a small school with not too many people. You get to know the teachers and they become mentors and friends.”

Parent Testimonials

“My son is now a confident and capable learner who will be able to transfer and adapt the skills you have given him from one context to another.”

“At Allegra my daughter learned how to be resilient, she adored her teachers and thrived in the adult environment.”

“We are delighted to have found a school where our son feels comfortable and it is reflected in both his marks and general approach to not only schooling, but life in general.”
